Give me a break. Will someone tell me why we should spend money we don't have to explore for more oil that will eventually run out anyway.
Wind power - one windmill will powerr 12 city blocks.....Read the Pickens Plans

Solar panels. I can't remember if these are the correct numbers, but I heard that if we built a mile of solar panels in Nevada where sun won't ever run out, it will power the US forever. FOR EVER. All the US has to do is lease some of that land to the solar power folks, like the do to the oil folks and while the initial cost would be high, FOR EVER is a long time.

Wind won't run out
Solar won't run out
Electric cars wont go as fast..big deal
Batterys are expensive.. another big deal, they will get cheaper as demand grows

Another good way to lose big, is a vote for McCain who is funding his campaign with big oil money.

The key factor is the economy, oil and fossil fuel sales results in major revenue for most western and European countries. As much as the governments want us to think of the environment, they don't want to lose the revenue made. Electric production cars are still a long way off been anything close to a comparison to fossil fueled ones. And bear in mind that electric cars need electricity to recharge them which is currently mostly generated from fossil fuel energy stations.

It is inevitable though that something will have to be done. The fossil fuels will not last forever and we still don't really know for sure what effect burning them has on the future environment.

I think cellulosic and algal bio-fuels hold a lot of promise as a transition fuel. The most important things is that we need to stop relying on our cars to get everywhere. Ride a bike, walk on that nice day, take a bus.

I like the idea of MagLev trains for future travel. Something like 2% of the energy use of commercial planes, and if traveling in a vacuum tube, can reach upwards of 4,000mph! Thats New York to Tokyo in 2 hours. Sushi for lunch anyone?

It really is boggling as to just how much of our infrastructure we have to rebuild.

As much as the governments want us to think of the environment, they don't want to lose the revenue made.

Companies will get rich building a green economy, no doubt about that. But then again, it will raise the living standard of the entire planet, so in a way we will all be rich: rich with health and happiness!

Oh, and BTW Desertthorn, the sun technically wont last forever, but as far as we are concerned, that is a good way to think about it as an energy source:)
